Event being held in Syston to offer advice on cost-of-living issues

An information and advice event is being held in Syston for people who may have concerns about the rising cost of living.

Charnwood Borough Council, as part of its Charnwood Community Action campaign, has organised the Cost of Living and Wellbeing with support from a range of partners.

The event is being held on Tuesday, November 29 at Syston Methodist Church in High Street between 3pm and 6.30pm.

There will be various organisations at the roadshow to offer advice on a range of issues including debt, housing, the dangers of using loan sharks and scams, skills and training, employment and more.

Verity Graham, the Council's neighbourhoods and partnerships manager, said: "We are very aware of the concerns and worries people have about the rising cost of living and that's why we launched Charnwood Community Action to co-ordinate and signpost support for people.

"The roadshow is another way we are trying to help by bringing together organisations who can help people.

"It is open for anyone to attend and no matter what position you find yourself in, we would like people to know they are not alone. There are organisations who can help and while there is often not an instant fix, they may be able to advise you on steps you can take to improve your situation.

"Please come along to the event in Syston and if you can't make it, visit our campaign web page which has information and links to organisations which can offer support and advice."

As well as advice on cost of living concerns, the roadshow will also have information about no cost or low-cost ways to improve your health and wellbeing.

The roadshow in Syston will also include a free prize draw for anyone who attends. The prize is a food hamper.

Organisations supporting the roadshow include Leicestershire County Council, Department of Work and Pensions, Trading Standards, Clockwise Credit Union, Trussell Trust, Citizens Advice, Active and Charnwood and more.

Another roadshow is being planned for the Loughborough area in the New Year.
