FENCING – CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA
We are aware of the growing strength of feeling regarding the lack of fencing around the new young children's play area on the Memorial Park, so I'm hoping that this will respond to some of those concerns.
Sileby Parish Council (SPC) took a lot of advice from experts during the design phase of the play areas to ensure that the safety of children was a priority factor. The reason why the decision was made not to install a fence was centred around the latest thinking on safety and safeguarding issues, for example, fencing can trap children into difficult situations.
However, we have received some complaints and concerns about this decision and understand the valid issues that some parents are raising. Most of the concerns relate to dogs having easy access to the play area. This is not to say that dog owners are not being responsible, but dogs do have a habit of running off and even 'picked up poo' can leave a residue.
So, SPC want to reassure parents who use the play area that we will take another look at the decision made in relation to the fencing in response to the issues raised and let you know what we propose to do.
