Rt. Hon Edward Argar MP April 2025 Update to Sileby Parish Council
Rt. Hon Edward Argar MP April 2025 Update to Sileby Parish Council
In my update to the Parish Council there are two key issues I want to offer a brief update on.
Flooding
As in my last update, as Sileby's local MP, I continue to take up specific local issues raised with Severn Trent Water and the Environment Agency, as well as continuing to press the Government and Environment Agency for action and support.
Earlier this month I met with members of the recently formed Sileby Flood Action Group, and Borough Councillor Geoff Lawrence, in the village to discuss the flooding, and potential short, medium, and long-terms steps we could press for to help improve the flooding situation in Sileby - in association with Geoff and others in the group there are a number of immediate actions I am taking with the Environment Agency and STW to support the work of the group, and am aiming to meet with the group again in late May.
We shared the view that although the weather is more spring-like as we head into summer, we need to use these spring and summer months in pressing for action now, to ensure that steps can be taken ahead of autumn rains, rather than when the problem recurs.
I am incredibly grateful to everyone who came along, and gave up their time, for what I felt was a very constructive and useful discussion, followed by a walk-about in the village to discuss specific issues on-site, and look forward to continuing to work closely with the Group in the months ahead.
Constructions Works at Development on Cossington Road
And finally, for this update, I have raised with Charnwood Borough Council local residents' concerns about the impact of site clearance and construction works on the site of the major housing development on Cossington Road. The development site, named 'Sileby Green' by the developers, previously received planning permission for new houses from CBC, and recent months have seen work on the site step up, with site clearance works being undertaken by heavy machinery, with this impacting on residents of Cossington Road and Chalfont Dtive, whose properties back onto the building site.
While there remain wider concerns about the impact of traffic to amd from the site during construction, and when the properties are completed and occupied, as well as the cumulative impact of considerable development in recent years on Sileby's local services and infrastructure, this development received planning permission in the proper way, amd is now being built.
However, having spoken with local residents, I believe it is important that as works on the site, and construction, begin to take place, the impact and disruption of these on nearby local residents is minimised as much as possible by the developers, and I have raised the importance of this with CBC.
As always, if there are any additional/ further local issues that Parish Councillors wish to raise with me, please do feel free to do so via the Clerk to the Parish Council, or directly.
And may I conclude by wishing everyone in Sileby a very happy and peaceful Easter weekend, and fingers crossed the sunshine and warmth of a few weeks ago returns soon!
